On Saturday, July 23, the weather was pretty nice for a 5K in Pleasant Prairie. Though I've reduced my training to about 20 miles a week, I was excited about the possibility of a personal record.
I clocked the first mile in 6:41 as I began to pass some of the runners who started too fast. I usually don't do this until the last mile of the race, so I was concerned that I would get passed later on. I completed the second mile in 6:51. I tried to push it as best I could in the final mile. With about half a mile to go, there wasn't anyone close to me. This is good because no one is chasing you down, but bad because you don't have anyone to chase, so I didn't have a ton of motivation. Still, I kept moving and clocked the third mile in 6:50, and the final .11 mile in 0:50 for a solid time of 21:12. I was hoping to beat my PR (20:59), but I'm sure I'll have another chance in the future.
